This volume comprises the papers presented at the conference of the same title, held in Belluno on October 28-29, 1988 and organized by the “Friends of the Museum” under the auspices of the Municipality of Belluno. This second edition, revised and corrected, comes out under the supervision of the Department of Science of Antiquity of the University of Padua, with the collaboration of the Historical Archives of Belluno, Feltre, and Cadore, and with an important contribution by the Angelini Foundation.
After the preface by Giovanni Gorini and the introduction by Franco Sartori, the volume presents conference papers by Stefania Pesavento Mattioli, Giovan Battista Pellegrini, Luisa Alpago Novello, Ezio Buchi, Maria Silvia Bassignano, Giovanni Gorini, Marisa Rigoni and Giovanni Angelini. The various interdisciplinary contributions consider problems tied to transportation, settlement, defence, society and economy, municipal life, money and territory, urban life in the city of Feltre, and the inscriptions in stone demarcating the ancient boundary located on Mt. Civetta.
The book presents a wide spectrum of studies intended to analyse the most evident, but also lesser known signs, of Roman presence in the area which today corresponds to the province of Belluno.
The papers in this volume are enriched by exhaustive footnotes and bibliographic references.
