The problems of geological and hydrological risk and safety are endemic to the entire Alpine arc, and in the case of the province of Belluno.

The natural fragility of the mountain environment has been aggravated in the last decades by new lifestyles, by the abandonment of mountain areas, and by the sometimes disputable choices of planners which have led to a more vulnerable environment. From these factors derives the necessity of adopting careful and calibrated interventions to mitigate exposure to hydrogeological risk in settled and productive areas. This volume considers proposals for a hydrogeological model adapted to the whole Piave River watershed, discussed at Nervesa della Battaglia, which allows stimulation of the response of the watershed to exceptional precipitation events, giving the response necessary to confront, as best as possible, consequent flood events. The book presents simulation with a bi-dimensional mathematical model with mobile bottom of the propagation of a flood event comparable with the disastrous event of November 1966 in the area of confluence with the Maè creek, which forms the Val di Zoldo, and the Ardo creek, and the Piave River at Longarone and Belluno respectively. In the end, a study of river morphodynamics is applied to the Tanaro River, but is equally adaptable as a model for other watersheds. The study makes evident the utility of certain interventions of simple and economical cleaning or clearing of obstacles in the riverbed and flood zone, especially in areas of crossing most critical for the city of Alexandria, also taking into account the way in which transport of solid sediments carried by the current influences hydrological risk and security.
