This volume covers environmental problems which relate to water, swelling of rivers and streams in the plains and in cities, above that which takes place in mountains, which today represent a pressing reality. These problems implicate the necessity of taking into account parameters and phenomena that are generally poorly known and are thus difficult to predict. Today, due to increasing attention to prevention and civil protection connected with hydrological problems, instruments are available for forecasting. Hydraulic models based on description of geometry and topography of hydrological basins demonstrate a high level of trustworthiness in terms of simulation of response of a basin to intense precipitation events, as is demonstrated in the chapters contained in this volume.
